THIS MOMENT

~Inspired by Amanda's Friday ritual.  A single photo - no words - capturing a simple, special, extraordinary moment.  One that I want to pause, savor, and remember.

A LESSON IN LIFE

Every once in awhile life grabs your immediate attention; sometimes by prodding you with a stick and other times by delivering a smack down that hits you like a ton of bricks when you least expect it.  The latter happened today.  Life delivered, or rather reissued, another reminder about permanence.  Nothing is permanent.

Dear reader, I struggle with this more often than I care to admit.  I like my world all orderly and tied up neatly with string.  Change is most welcome as long as I am prepared for it.  See the above photo?  It was taken yesterday in our fair city as I strolled about the grounds of the capitol complex.  As I walked my normal route I took great delight in the many blooming trees standing with arms laden in magnificent glory.  Their scent filled the air with sweetness and a soft wind caused the occasional petal to softly flitter to the ground.  It was heavenly I tell you, the kind of moment that takes your mind away to another place; a true vacation for the soul.

SPRING

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

~Robert Frost
